Nylatron Flat Washer Frequently Asked Questions
Below are answers to some of the most common questions about Nylatron flat washers.
What are Nylatron flat washers?
Nylatron flat washers are manufactured from Nylatron, a proprietary MoS2-filled nylon compound produced by Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products. The addition of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) to the nylon base resin significantly improves the material's wear resistance, compressive strength, and dimensional stability compared to standard unfilled nylon.
How does Nylatron differ from standard nylon?
Standard nylon (PA6 or PA66) is an excellent general-purpose engineering plastic, but Nylatron's MoS2 filler dramatically reduces the coefficient of friction and increases wear life under dynamic loading. Nylatron also has lower moisture absorption than unfilled nylon, which means its dimensions are more stable in variable humidity environments.
What applications are Nylatron washers used in?
Nylatron washers are used in bearings, bushings, cam followers, conveyor components, and mechanical assemblies where a self-lubricating, wear-resistant plastic washer is needed. They are particularly suited for applications with continuous or repetitive motion where standard nylon would wear prematurely.
